Chocolate Steam Cake

Chocolate Steam Cake

Prep Time - 10 minutes
Cook Time - 30 minutes


  • 1 cup Cocoa
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Evaporated Milk
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 1 cup Boiling Water
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 4 Eggs
  • 3 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder


  • Place cocoa and sugar into large mixing bowl, add boiled water and stir. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
    Grease miniature loaf pans and pour batter into pans approx 2/3 full.
    Place rack in the bottom of the CanCooker and add water to the top of the rack.  Place 2 pans of batter on top of the rack.  Place lid on, latch and steam for 30 minutes.
    Remove and let cool. 
    Use miniature loaf pans.  We used disposable aluminum ones. Size: 5-1/2" long x 3-1/2" wide x 2" deep. Only 2 pans will be able to fit into the CanCooker at a time.
    This recipe will yield 4 loaves.
    Make batter ahead of time and place in storage container for easier use at campsite, etc.

    This cake turned out amazing! I didn’t have evaporated milk but regular whole milk worked just fine. Everyone gobbled this up.

  • Everyone loves this cake in my family, I ran out of cocoa powder one day and used half a cup of hot chocolate and half a cup of cocoa, that’s how I make it all the time now.
